Fior Bruton and I are running in the Newport R.I. Marathon on October 18, 2009. website - www.amicamarathon.org
We are running this marathon to raise funds for Autism Family Tours with Brianna's (www.autismfamilytours.org) Bicycle program which is under development. We wish to share our organization's vision for this very special program!
Families polled - We polled our families on our mailing list and over 30 children with Autism ranging in age from 5 to 17 do not know how to ride a bicycle.
Partnership and Collaboration - Scott Matthews, Occupational Therapist from Intensive Therapeutics and staff are in charge of teaching our children on how to ride successfully and safely.
Pathways for exceptional children - will be training Peer Mentors to assist Scott and Staff as they work to help engage the children in successful bike riding
Safety and Rules of the Road - Local Police departments and Local bike shop owners will work with our organization to create a safety manual and rules of the road.
Vision for Spring 2010 - Launch Autism Family Tours with Brianna's bicycle club where children will plan out riding routes on their computer, and we will all ride together with our family and new friends!
It will cost our organization approximately $10,000 to train all the children successfully and to create the proper manuals for this ongoing program. It is our goal to raise at least half the funds in donations and obtain the remaining in corporate sponsorship. No donation is too small as it all adds up. We are grateful for your support!
Help us create this dream for our special children and families!
Thank you, Claudette and Fior!
